What is Naturopathic Healthcare? How does it differ from what you're use too?

Experience the Naturopathic Healthcare Difference

  1. Acupuncture treatments

    • Did you know naturopathic doctors are trained in traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture? Have you heard about it before and looking to try it?

    • Acupuncture is a medical system created thousands of years ago, virtually unchanged to support the body’s natural healing abilities and restoration of health and balance. Naturopathic doctors, as part of their medical school training receive a through 4 years of training in traditional Chinese medicine philosophy, diagnosis and treatments using acupuncture. Treatments can include cupping therapy, moxa heat, or microelectrostim, Acupuncture helps treat a wide variety of health concerns from insomnia, indigestion, fertility challenges, depression, pain and more. Use these tools as part of your treatment plan with your ND.

  2.  An abundance of natural options for you

    • Have you ever wondered what healthcare options you have? Do you want to understand when and how to use natural medicines?

    • NDs are trained in a 4 year post undergraduate naturopathic medical school; learning all of the medical sciences and clinical diagnosis of conventional medical school; with the addition of studies in naturopathic modalities; botanical medicine, homeopathic medicine, traditional Chinese medicine, nutrition, exercise and physical activity, and mental/emotional support.

  3. Finding the root cause of your symptoms

    • Do you want to know why your health problems have developed? What it means to have them and what you can do about?

    • Dig a little deeper with your ND and find the root cause of your health concerns. Gear treatment plans toward it so you can heal instead of suppressing symptoms and waiting for more to appear. While symptom relief is important and part of naturopathic treatment plans; addressing the root cause for long term healing will be important too.

  4. Health check-ups

    • Are you unsure if you’re on the right track with your health? Maybe you don’t feel sick but you want to make sure you’re health is improving well.

    • Naturopathic consultations aren’t just for when you’re sick and hurting, they are a great healthcare tool for when you are well; to help you stay that way.  Your health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being. Don’t wait for something to be ‘broken’ before you fix it, get routine health-check-ups with your ND to make sure you’re on the right track.

  5. Individualized treatment plans

    • Are you looking for a doctor that takes into account all of your health concerns?

    • Naturopathic treatment plans typically cover a wide range of areas of your life that impact your health and can include: diet improvements; lifestyle modifications; botanical, homeopathic or nutritional supplements; acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine treatments; or intramuscular or intravenous (IV) nutrient therapy. All of which are tailored to your unique medical history, symptom picture, family history and health goals.

  6. Long appointment, little wait

    • Do you wish you had more time to talk about what’s concerning you? Do you have a long list of questions that need answers?

    • Because you are paying for your naturopathic consultations; they can be booked as long as you need. This is a great resource for you to ask all the questions you have, get answers, have time to get thorough treatment plans going and be able to book more regular follow ups to see your progress.

  7. No drugs

    • Are you looking for safer or more natural alternatives to prescription or over the counter (OTC) medications? Or a discussion about side effects and other options?

    • While ND’s are trained in pharmacology and understand your prescription drugs well; they’ll be sourcing natural options for you either in adjunct to your current medication routine (keeping a close eye on drug-herb interactions and safety for you), or in lieu of it if you aren’t on anything. From ‘prescription’ foods to natural health products, NDs have a lot of tools to help you feel better.

  8. Preventing disease

    • Are you developing or already managing chronic illness and wondering what you can do about it?

    • Knowing what illness predispositions in your family history and your own medical history you may have is an important piece of your long-term health and quality of life. Use this information with your ND to tailor your health goals.

  9. Specialized lab testing and routine blood work testing

    • Are you wondering if certain foods aren’t agreeing with you? Or have you ever wondered what your hormone levels look like? Has it been a while since your last blood work tests? Are you wondering if your cholesterol has lowered, or if your iron stores have improved with the healthy changes you’ve been making?

    • ND’s can order many of the same serum blood tests as your family doctor; which makes them a great compliment to your MD’s assessment, as NDs can requisition for another round for you at anytime. Because labs run by NDs are not covered by OHIP, and are paid for by you; they can be run for you anytime at the discretion of your ND and as thorough as your ND feels is needed for your assessment. This is a great way to check in on labs that have previously flagged abnormal for you, or if it’s just been a long while since your last check and you don’t have an annual physical scheduled with your family doctor.

  10. Walk-in style appointments

    • Are you looking for immune support and symptom relief when you’re sick? Do you get sick often and want support to strengthen your immune system and stress resilience?

    • As you know not all colds and flus need to be treated with antibiotics. Your ND will help you understand when you need to be referred to your family doctor or walk-in clinic for antibiotics and when you can use natural therapies for symptom relief and immune support while you recover with in adjunct to your prescribed medication or on its own. Use small visits as walk-in style appointments to get yourself checked.
